Year I of Posgraduate Diplomate Program in Pediatrics starting in Long Island and Chicago

The first year of the 3-year postgraduate program, the Diplomate in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (DICCP) will start in two locations this fall.  Classes will be held at the Levittown Health Care & Postgraduate Center (Long Island) of the New York Chiropractic College, and another in Chicago, Illinois.  The NY program is co-sponsored by New York Chiropractic College and the one in Chicago is co-sponsored by Palmer College.  The first year of the program has already started in New Zealand/Australia, administered by the New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC). This is the 2nd time that NZCC is administering the program down under, the first group graduated in April 2008.

The DICCP program is a 360-hour, 30 module board certified program with a structured and well-defined syllabus for all 30 modules.  Doctors must fulfill all attendance requirements, complete all research assignments and pass the internal final exam before they are eligible to sit for the DICCP Board Examination.  The Board Exam is administered by the International College of Chiropractic Pediatrics and consists of two parts -- written and oral and testing is done by several examiners.

The DICCP was the first pediatrics diplomate program in chiropractic with the first group graduating in 1996.  There are currently 200+ DICCPS in the US, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.  The DICCP is the only chiropractic postgraduate specialty program endorsed by both the ICA and ACA Pediatric Councils.

"The DICCP program is a superior educational program designed for the doctor of chiropractic seeking serious postgraduate education in caring for children and pregnant women," said Dr. Peter Fysh, senior instructor and Professor Emeritus of Palmer College of Chiropractic West, recognized world-wide as an expert on chiropractic pediatric care. "The curriculum is structured and comprehensive so that by the time the doctor finishes the 3-year course they have the knowledge and clinical know-how to care for any pediatric patient that comes into their office, appropriately and effectively. They learn correct protocols of care, what to do and how to do it, and what not  to do, keeping in mind the best interest of the child paramount at all times. "

The program is challenging but definitely worthwhile for the DC who wants to care for pregnant women, infants and toddlers in their practice.  It will give them the knowledge and clinical skills that is so important when caring for this special patient population. For schedules at the three different locations and enrollment information see below.  Doctors who may have questions should call the ICA Pediatrics Council at 1-800-423-4690 (US and Canada) or 1-703-528-5000 Ext 110.
